People have still not got used to this fact and will still type in their location. Where as in reality it is not needed.
Being more specific with your campaigns can save you lots of money.
Target specific locations based on population, your target area and trends and household incomes.
So how do I become more specific with my adwords campaigns
Simple use more words in your search criteria If I want to target London with my services then I may specify London in my search campaign but if London, which for some business types is too bigger an area or location, then I may target postcodes or certain London boroughs or local areas names. By being more specific in your locations and areas you target can save lots of money on random click throughs to your website. But can bring in more click throughs as everyone now like to use local services and support local businesses.
Additionally be more specific in your wording. examples
if you are targeting say "driving schools".
You will appear for driving school across the UK, you will appear for other driving schools and for services you perhaps do not offer such as forklift truck driving schools, HGV driving schools and the list goes on even GOLF DRIVING SCHOOL.
You will need to add specific locations but you will also appear for people searching for: Car Locksmiths Safe Locksmith or even if someone is searching for a person, film name or product entitled locksmith you will appear for that.
Hopefully they will read your advertisement properly and therefore won't click on it!

Turn off when you are busy and turn on when you are not
Sometimes people forget the basics and we can all understand why. If you have a successful adwords campaign and don't need any additional work then why not turn it off. Likewise if you are running a campaign and you are burning holes in your pocket and not experiencing any online benefits turn it off. Simply pause the campaign. I do this often and if I see a trend of click throughs and calls then I will target my adwords campaign to focus on these key times, If i am on the end of the phone and experience these increased calls I will then turn off my PPC - Pay Per click campaign.
